My experience of doing the BA at the Kilkenny Campus has been very positive. Firstly the staff on campus are very friendly and supportive. Although Kilkenny is a tiny fraction of the size of the Maynooth campus, they endeavour to have all the key resources in place for students, and are continually upgrading and adding to those resources. They are tuned in to the concept of adult education, and the difficulties that can arise for people returning in later life to education. From your first semester there is guidance and support to acclimatise you into your new environment. The choice of modules available is always diverse and interesting, complemented with a very high standard of lecturers. The modular system allows the students to work at their own pace so that college can fit around personal, work and family commitments. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of college life for me has been the wonderful friends I have made during my study. I will miss the ‘craic’ and the social aspect of my college life when I finish my degree.
Along the way I have learned from others, made new friends, and acquired new skills. The experience has enriched my life beyond my expectations. While the degree is a wonderful thing to have, and I am sure it will open new doors in the future, it has given me back my self belief and confidence, and that is of most value to me. Today, with my degree in my back pocket, I am a different person to the one who entered the doors of Kilkenny Campus for the first time in 2004. My next goal is a Masters degree, to challenge myself to reach new heights!
