Our Campus is unique in Ireland, as the only dedicated Life Long Learning Campus for adult students. Founded in 1997, we are part of the Department of Adult and Community Education at NUI Maynooth, and we help to further their commitment to the provision of flexible part-time education for adults, who cannot come to the main campus to study full time.
Since our home Department was founded more than thirty five years ago, Ireland has undergone profound change in the social, economic and educational spheres. The pace of change has increased in recent years, beyond what anyone could have imagined.
In such an environment, the old ways and old approaches no longer serve us in education. At Kilkenny Campus we are exploring ways to widen participation in life long learning, adopting new and flexible delivery methods and engaging in dialogue with local and regional stakeholders to ensure that the Campus is responsive to the educational needs of the city and the region.
Our aim is to put the learner at the centre of what we do and to provide a learning environment that is flexible, supportive and adult –friendly, where our students have a sense of ownership and feel confident that they can achieve whatever learning goals they set themselves.
I would like to pay tribute to all of our graduates, students, tutors and staff, our colleagues in the main University and to the many local stakeholders who work closely with us on our Steering Committee. This community of learners continue to define our Campus as a place of many possibilities.
