The library is situated on campus and was set up at the same time in September 1997. Its stock is generally selected on the basis of course requirements and as such has grown in size and volume as the courses have progressed. The collection is also designed to reflect the location of the campus and the diverse and interesting history of both Kilkenny and St. Kieran's College. The campus library is run in close collaboration with the main library in NUI Maynooth. Most of the computing and photocopying and printing facilities are housed in the library, which is staffed by a librarian and two part-time library assistants.
There are 4 PCs available in the library for students use with access to printing, multimedia and scanning facilities. The PCs are networked to the Maynooth Computer Network enabling them to access the Internet and to use the library catalogues of Maynooth and other Universities as well as using the more standard computer applications. These computers also provide access to the same online journal and electronic resources which are available to students on the main Maynooth campus.
We currently have 2 IT rooms on campus, one is a dedicated teaching classroom, the other is available for student use throughout term time.
The campus has access to high powered broadband which provides excellent high speed access to the Internet. The campus also has a number of wireless access points which provides password protected wireless access to our registered students and staff in various rooms around the campus.
A video-conferencing facility is available to provide link-ups between the Maynooth and Kilkenny campuses. It is used for class purposes and also for link ups with other educational institutions in Ireland and abroad.
The campus has a number of small and medium-sized lecture and tutorial rooms. These are mainly used for teaching purposes for our own courses, but are sometimes available for use by outside groups for conferences, courses or meetings (especially during the day, Monday - Friday). Please contact the campus for further details.
We have a number of laptops and dataprojectors which can be set up for lectures as required. Overhead projectors, slide projectors and speakers are also available as required.
Photocopying and printing facilities are available in the libary to staff and students on a fee basis.
Students and staff have access to the Coffee Dock which has a microwave, toaster, fridge, kettle and dishwasher for student use. The Coffee Dock is located on the ground floor just past the toilets.
Free parking facilities for students and visitors are located at the back of the building.
